Northwest Children's Environmental Health Forum October 1-2, 2009 Tukwila Community Center (near Seattle)

OVERVIEW: This two-day event will bring together policy makers,agency, private and nonprofit professionals, K-12 educators, academic researchers and students, individuals and others to showcase new research, current science and effective programs. The Forum will help create new partnerships and initiatives as we work together to eliminate children's harmful environmental exposures during their most critical developmental years.

You are invited to an exciting forum in October:

 Northwest Children's Environmental Health Forum October 1-2, 2009

Tukwila Community Center (near Seattle)

 PROGRAM:

Day 1 (Thursday, October 1) Science Forum: What is the latest research in the field of children's environmental health? National and local speakers will share emerging science. Topics include environmentally-linked diseases, emerging chemicals of concern, the built environment, food, and climate change.

 

Day 2 (Friday, October 2) Policy & Practice Forum: How can we work with and influence policymakers to protect children's health? National and local speakers will share status of current policy and legislation affecting children's issues such as toys, cosmetics, food, and plastics. Practical tools to prevent harm will be shared and action items discussed.

 

FEATURED SPEAKERS:

TED SCHETTLER, Science and Environmental Health Network. Overview of latest science on children's environmental health, cumulative exposures issues, in utero exposure, critical windows of development

BRUCE LANPHEAR, Simon Frazier University. Neurotoxicants, learning and developmental diseases, lead, and children's environmental health

MICHAEL SKINNER, Washington State University. Transgenerational impacts

SHANNA SWAN, University of Rochester. Endocrine Disruptors and Children's Health

 

POSTERS INVITED:

In addition to breakout sessions and plenary presentations, the Forum will include posters covering topics of regional interest related to children's environmental health (science, policy or practice). Please see Forum webpage for "Call for Abstracts." Deadline for poster abstract submittal is September 4.

 

COSTS:

Early bird: $30 for each day, $50 for both days (register by September 9)

Regular: $35 for each day, $60 for both days

Walk-in: $45 for each day, $80 for both days Delicious organic breakfast snacks, lunch and afternoon snacks included.
