Now Recruiting for Sound Stewards!
Get involved with the restoration community along the Duwamish River and on Maury Island in King County and become a local habitat hero! People For Puget Sound is pleased to bring you this FREE, four-class series. Class topics will include a history of the Duwamish River, introduction to Puget Sound ecology, native vs. invasive plant identification, weed control, and planting techniques. In return for 16 hours of training, we ask Sound Stewards to commit to 40 volunteer hours over the next year on a People For Puget Sound restoration sites.

The Sound Stewardship Program offers opportunities for individuals to get involved in hands-on restoration no matter what their level of experience. Join us in the effort to save Puget Sound.

CLASS SCHEDULE (topics subject to change):
Participants must attend all classes.
Wednesday, February 10: 6pm to 9pm
Port of Seattle Headquarters, Pier 69: Room TBD

Class Topics: People For Puget Sound introduction, Sound Stewardship Program overview, Puget Sound ecology, history of the Duwamish River.
*Food and refreshments will be provided
Saturday, February 13: 10am to 3pm
Duwamish River: Directions will be provided in class
Class Topics: Tour of some of our Duwamish River restoration sites, discussion of restoration techniques, site histories, native vs invasive plants.
*Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a sack lunch
Wednesday, February 17: 6pm to 9pm
Port of Seattle Headquarters, Pier 69: Room TBD

Class Topics: Toxic chemicals in Puget Sound, plant ID, practicum on plant identification and using plant keys, review game.
*Food and refreshments will be provided
Saturday, February 20: 9:30am to 3:00pm (The event starts at 10am so we ask that you arrive at 9:30 for preparations) Habitat restoration event at Codiga Park in Tukwila
Class Topics: Restoration event logistics, planting, weeding and monitoring techniques, volunteer management
*Dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes and bring water and a sack lunch
